Monkey *****!!!!!!

Remember this thread??

Well, we found the problem today. Freaking 45% leakdown on #5 with #3 not too far behind.

New shortblock here I come.

That said, I need to order one, and am left wondering who I should go to. Any suggestions?

Bright side is that I'm going with either a 355 or a 383, and a Joe O cam as soon as I have head flow numbers.

This may pose a problem though. How much are you various people paying for a short block??? 355 or 383, I need to get a price range.

After some quick research, I realize that I'm in a pinch. I have to get my heads flowed, and that coupled with the labor R&R for the motor is leaving me with about $3000 to work with for shortblock price.

Which route is going to be more beneficial?? I can't find a nice well built 355/383 for $3K, but I am coming up with rotating assemblies for about $2000 that are all forged.

I need some input here. Thanks.

Piston Rings. At least in my case. We'll know once the motor is torn down.

Man, dug this one up...

Kind of in the same boat as far as a shortblock. Picked up one today that's already been clearanced and bored, now I'm shopping for a rotating assembly. I'm seriously considering going with a cast crank though, like the SCAT 9000 series. Should be good for all of the power I plan to run. You can find rotating assemblies with that crank in the 1200-1300 range. I just want to feel safe turning it to 6500 and hitting it with a 150 shot.

I found a shortblock at AP Engineering for $2500 with an Eagle ESP Cast crank, Eagle ESP Forged 4340 5.7" H-Beam rods, and Diamond 11.0 dished reliefed pistons. I talked with a couple of the guys there, and even on 2 bolt mains, I'll be fine spinning it up to 6800. Looking to make a LOT of N/A power for a 355. Stay tuned...
