Mods to beat almost stock LS1's

There is a lot of LS1 camaro/trans ams around here (most 100% stock) and was wondering what do they run (6spd and auto) and what mods would i need to pull from them? I know some guys can run high 12's w/ mods but dont know an all stock ones time in teh 1/4. i'm planning on headers, SFC's and no cats. will that do it? thanks

mods so far

Moroso CAI
TPIS Airfoil
Borla Catback
McLeod Street twin Clutch
McLeod Adjustable Master Cylinder
POly Trans mount
poly Torque arm mount
1LE aluminum driveshaft
ASCD 2 1/2" fiberglass cowl induction hood

6spd and 3.42 gears in a 97 camaro Z28. thanks again, car runs a 13.6 right now. thanks

Put a set of headers on there and upgrade to a 3.73 or 4.10 and you should be pulling some of them. Some of those cars are freaks. It really doesnt make since how some are faster than others and they both can be stock. But good luck anyways.

dont put 3.42 in there unless you plan on spraying. if not put 4.10s in there and that will help you alot on top end.

I agree, headers and would put you around 13 flat.
Ive seen stock LS-1s run anything from 13.1 - 14.1 but I've heard of 12.8 with just a K&N filter so It wouldnt be a slaughter my any means. IMO someone who shifts perfect can run about the same times as an Auto. thats why 9/10 times the M6 cars are slower then autos.

Yeah, most 6pds are 3.42's and the autos are either 2.73 or 3.23.

Get some headers and you should be ok then. Especailly since you already have a catback.

Leave the gears alone, 3.42's are fine. Get some LT headers and your set.

3.42's are fine depending on what you want from the car. If you want a fast na car, then change the gears. If you are gonna spray it, stay with the 3.42's.

My brothers 96 T/A kills stock LS1's on the street all the time.
He's got the following right now:
SLP Shorties
SLP 3" 2OTL
Gutted Cat
3.73 gears (this was temporary since the 4:10's broke and got the 3.73's for free)
Lakewood LCA's
Mac underdrive pulley
160K miles on stock motor

We just put some ported heads and an LT4 hotcam in the car and a buddies 01 LS1 with headers, 3600 stall, and some other bolt ons couldn't pull away on the street. My brother was right there at his rear 1/4 panel from 10mph to 120mph The 01 ran a best of 11.87.

yes thats what i said, 4.10s enable you to over come the greater resrticions at high speeds. i only turn 4500 rpms at 140. and i get there alot more quicker with the 4.10s than 3.42s. you need to make up the difference at the top end because thats where the ls1 has the advantage. 4.10s help out all around low end and top if you can keep the tires from breaking loose.

but yes if you put a calculator to it you dont have the top end with 4.10s that 3.42s. but if you run both stock cars down the track, and one has 4.10s and one with 3.42s you maybe able to do 160 but thats after the 1/4 mile mark so it doesnt. its who gets thaere first. by the way 160 is not a problem with 4.10s.

ill tell you alot of people say a stock motor is not worth tunning, i dissagree. tunning has done wonders for just what ive done. but if you get headers invest in tunercat.
