MOdifying stock valve covers to fir comp 1.6's

Is there any way to modify them to fit or do you have to buy tall ones? I remeber seeing a guide to modifying them, but I searched around a long time and couldn't find it.

3/4" 8" extension and hammer on the underside of the valve cover?

Crane gold SA RR's fit the stock valve covers. I'm running Comp Cams Pro Magnums NSA and I had to remove the upper tube supports (metal bracing that holds the center tubes, only on the upper side that faces the intake manifold).

Thats what I've got, Comp Pro Mags. I wasn't sure where they were catching. Looks like if thats all then it'll be pretty easy. What did you use to cut it?

It's been a while but it was probably a combination of tin snipes, dremel with a cut-off wheel and/or a sawall.

I hollowed out my valve covers. Bought a centerbolt cover hold down kit from Autozone. The "holddowns" on this kit can be unscrewed from the stud part. So I screwed the 4 studs in the head then install the valve cover and then screwed on the "holddowns" (sort of like wingnuts).

This is the way to do it. Over time your VC will weaken if you remove the supports.

Just did mine and only had to modify the long supports. I didn't have to mess with the egr part or beat on the covers with socket. I changed my whole valvetrain w/larger studs and guideplates. Went alot easier than expected.
