Modifying the opti rotor?
I've read a few posts where people have modified the rotor in the optispark. They used rivets to hold the brass part down to the rotor? Can anyone explain this? Is it necessary on the new AC Delco units to do this now?
I just tore my opti apart to check the screws. One of them was loose, and the other was laying in the housing!! So, yes, locktite them.
I considered drilling and riveting the rotor, but instead I put a drop of thin CA adhesive (Cyanoacrylate instant adhesive for plastic/metal) onto each edge of the 'sandwich' of material where the heat stakes are. This gives a lot of surface area for the strength of the joint, between both metal parts and the plastic. IMO it will be stronger than even rivets. And easier. If you try this, a thin grade of CA is required so it can wick in to the gaps. Hobby shops carry it.
