Missing and hesitation - 1/2 solved

I was getting a lot of missing and hesitation once the engine got hot. I scanned for codes and got a bad egr valve and left o2 sensor code history. I swapped out both parts and the problem has improved dramatically, but I still get a little miss and hesitation under very light acceleration. Another observation, that may or may not be related, is that the exhaust seems to get very hot. I actually feel heat coming through the console near the parking brake handle and out from under the car when standing next to it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you replaced plugs, wires or other stuff recently. More info on the car would be nice, like a little history and what not.

Re: Missing and hesitation - 1/2 solved

Sorry, just got the car a few months ago so don't know too much about it's history. I just replaced the opti a couple of moths ago. The wires and plugs appear to have been recently replaced. I should probably pull a plug to see it's condition. No ses light now btw. Do you think I should change the right side o2 sensor as well?

Thanks for your reply.

Btw: I've learned an incredible amount of information from this board. Thanks to all!

I don't see how plug wires would like new or old. The first thing I would do is identify any dead cylinders. Then start looking at the plug wire for that cylinder.

If the miss is electrical, find a dark spot, at night, and pop the hood while the engine is running. Frequently high-tension electrical problems can be seen as an electrical light show, wires arcing. If it isn't spark, the next logical suspect would be a dirty or sticking injector. Easy to pull out and look at, or just go the lazy route and run some good injector cleaner through. Intermittent stuff can be a real bear to track down- tests okay when you test it, then acts up once in a while.

I replaced my 02 sensors after the car got 100K miles on it with AC Delco, just because and I was tired of always wondering if they were the problem I was tracking down. If you can scan it like with a lap top or other device you can see if the sensor is working properly.
