Missfire Issue with Crane Digital Ign. Box (trying to fix it, so please help)
Ok. I have a crane digital ignition box for my 94 z28, 383 LT1 with all the bolt-ons. I got the box becuase nitrous is my next major power adder and crane allows for a dial **** to retard spark. But whats awesome it allows for instant retard when the selinoids open up.
For the most part throttle response improved below 3,000 rpms and ran pretty good. But not much difference in power in the upper rpms other than a sputter, blip, missfire from 5k-redline.
I know this is apparently common problem with odb1 Lt1's and everyone i have spoken to has pulled the box to get rid of it. I unpluged mine and it pulls VERY nice right to 6,500rpms
But I am trying to figure out how to make this miss go away. The car is running mechanically perfect. No codes, no spark pull, no burnt wires, tr-6 plugs, etc etc so basically I want to know is there a better place to ground it, or what have you dont to get rid of your ignition box issues.
ANY help or insight is appreciated.

Yes it does, its a dail in deal. No pills I just turn the ****. Its set at like 6,400 rpms. The only thing I can think of is its dropping a spark early in anticipation of the rev limiter but its doing it roughly 1,500 rpms before that point.

i looked at the info that crane supplies with with the box and they give like 7 reasons why it may missfire. But none really apply towards me.... which is annoying. I will scan and post it late tonight when i get home.

Make sure it has a good ground. Mine did that and it was just the ground. Although not confirmed, heat may also be a factor.

ok, where did you ground yours??
I brought mine to the radiator support. I sanded the top where the nut is that sinks into the support. there is also another factory ground that goes there. where should i put it instead??

In the engine compartment there are several good grounding locations. There is a ground block on the passenger inner fender. Or you can go straight to the battery. Good connections are critical. Over sized wires and gold connects wouldn't be a bad idea. Mine is currently grounded on my fenrder where the hood mount was but I'll probably re-do it and go straight to the battery. My power wire should be redone also.

ok, sounds good. I am going to redo my ground. Get nice fat wire, and I already have gold connections. I need to fix my neg. battery terminal end cus it rounded. But those are great ideas. thanks
