Missfire at idle only....Opti??
Missfire at idle only....Opti??
Hey guys, still trying to figure out whats up with my car. I hooked up a scanner to it and it showed missfire on #6 and #3 cylinders only at idle. The car has stock opti and plug wires (60k miles). Car runs great untill you come to a stop and it starts missfiring at idle and will stall while the cars in drive, no missfires at WOT. Plug wires show no sign of being burnt. Could it be the dreaded opti?? Help guys, this is getting pretty damn fustrating.
Thanks

Doubt it. If the problem were between the rotor and cap, you would expect the problem to get worse as the rotor passes by the contact in the cap at faster and faster rates.
Do you notice what might be confused with a ticking noise at idle? 97's had a notorious problem with loose plugs and the compression blowing past the plugs was often confused with a ticking sound thought to be elsewhere.
What is interesting though is that the 2 plugs are fired consecutively in the firing order. Check the wiring at the opti to be sure it's seated properly and in the correct order then try swapping plug and wire from 1 to 3 and vice versa. See what happens to the misfire after that.
