Miss after sitting a while after hot
Miss after sitting a while after hot
I know this is the LT1 forum but the best minds on the board are here. I did post on the V6 forum but wanted to ask here also. I hope I don't put anyone out in asking this here.
A relative of mine has a 3.4L and has a problem similar to one I had with 84 TBI. After the car is hot and he shuts it down for a short while. He can then go maybe a 1/2 block before it misses bad. The missing lasts maybe 5 seconds and then goes away. Will not return until the same conditions are repeated. If the car is driven directly from cold and never shut down, there is no problem. It restarts with no problem. If he repeats the condition with out driving it, that is idling, there is no miss. Only after sitting when hot and driven.
I told him I was reasonably sure he has a fuel problem. More than likely an air pocket will develope while sitting. It is only enough to notice while driving since it pulls or I should say uses the most fuel. At idle the fuel consumed is a lot less. It takes a few moments to get to the injectors because the pocket forms farther back away from the engine.
I told him to replace the fuel filter and check for contaminates coming from the tank while he was there. I also told him I would ask here if anyone has information or if someone knows if this is a common problem.
I am curious, I didn't see a fuel line schrader valve. Did I miss something? I wanted him to tape a fuel pressure gage to his windshield and recreate the problem.
