minus muffler

OK i was going to put a flowmaster cat-back on my 95 z. so i went ahead and took off the magnaflow muffler i had on there and i wanted to see what it would sound like... So i started it up... and i sounds good as hell. i was wondering if anyone has done this before to there car. i cant really notice a loss or gain of power yet cause it is raining outside right now. I guess my question is should i just have a muffler shop bend a peice of pipe for me or continue on with what i was going to do.

youll lose alot of backpressure and low end torque (something these cars crave), but theres a possibility that you could gain some horsepower up top, and a couple more miles to the gallon!

i doubt you will burn any valves (does the person who told you this own a f-body?), the system you are trying to make is similar to the SLP Loudmouth cat-back, or a stock exhaust with a cutout.

I did this at first, I took out the muffler and ran a pipe in its place and the car slowed way down, I put a good catback on it and it ran much better. It sounds great but kills your low end.

ok then i will just get the cat-back. no the person that told me owns a mustang . Also i was going to get headers... are hookers good for the money, if not what kind are good.. i was going to go with st cause i dont want to have to buy the y pipe. is there that much of a difference in performance between the two to make it worth it? Thanks for the info again.

i drove around for a week and a half without a muffler on my car. I loved the sound. My auto shop teacher said it couldnt be too good for the driveshaft or the floor pan since the exhaust was dumping at the end of the y pipe

so if i just got a elbow peice of pipe and aimed the exhaust towards the ground it will be ok? i think they are like 3 dollars at the nearest autozone so i was going to get one instead of paying the 260 dollar tag for a flowmaster system. thank you for the input. sean
