might need new pan gasket.

so i have a pretty bad leak from my oil pan and might need to get a new gasket. Since i can see exactly where the leak is coming from, would i be able to drop the pan down and put some gasket maker in the spot to fix it, or do you think im going to need to replace the gasket? if i do need to replace the gasket, is it at all possible to weasle a new gasket into place with the pan just dropped down, or am i going to have to take the motor out?

Re: might need new pan gasket.

If your gonna do it, then do it right the first time. Replace the oil pan gasket. your gonna have to remove all the bolts to the pan, then it should drop down a few inches, if you need more room, unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up. Remove the old pan gasket, and put the new one on, its once peice so the trick we used was got got a hanger and pulled the gasket through the oil pan from the front. Worked out well, of course be sure to drain the oil first before you do this. Also, when you put the pan back on put sone Black high temp rtv on the corners of the pan where the timing cover meet the gasket and where the rear main seal housing meets the gasket...use an ample amount, you'll be good to go
