Might buy a 95 z28
Sorry for such a long post
I am looking at a 95 z28 with a 6 spd, leather and t tops. Only has 85k on it and needs a good interior clean up. Outside is in very good shape with a few little dents in the 1/4. Asking price is 2500 but can probably ****** it up for 2000.
The only problem is that the antifreeze is low, real low and the heat doesnt blow hot. He said the head gaskets were replaced at 69k which seems kind of low to me. heck, the old ones are in the trunk still. I know the car wasnt babied as it is owned by a 20 year old who took it off the road due to the glove box full of tickets and it needs tires.
I jumpstarted it and it fired right up with no noises and no smoke. Ran very smooth and the ac even worked. Had it running for about 20 minutes and the temp gauge creeped up to just about the middle of the gauge. The check engine light also came on as well as the fans after being on for a few minutes.
I just dont want to buy this and then get slammed with the good old head gasket problem. I have done these waterpumps before, but am a little nervous about being able to get to anything under the hood of this thing such as the heater core. The car has been in the same spot for a month and there are no puddles or signs of any leaks.
I have a 95 Impala with the same motor (stock motor with the iron heads) and at 164k it runs great and is original. Would love to have the 6 spd in the Impala.
I appreciate any guidance from you guys.

Re: Might buy a 95 z28
The ses light will kick on the fans and if the temp gauge is in the middle that sounds about right . As not feeling heat it could be a bad heater core if it clogged up or hoses not hooked up . I would fill the radiator up with water and have all the water out let it heat up look for water in oil on passenger floor boards tail pipe the water has to go somewhere . Just remeber there need to be no air in the system for it to pressure up so the fans wont kick on and to bulid enough to see leaks . GL

Screw it, I bought it anyway. Drove it around town for about 25 minutes and had it running for about 45 minutes. It was only about half gallon low on coolant and now the temp gauge doesnt go past 1/4. However there is still no heat. The heater hoses were lukewarm at best so I am thinking its either a clogged heater core or the coolant sensor thing in the heater hose line. Pick it up tomorrow and have to start with brakes and rotors all around and then tires.

THe car is all stock he said. I will hook the scanner up to it tomorrow. He said it comes and goes but is on most of the time. I bet they never changed the 02 sensors when they did the head gaskets.
