in the middle of adjusting valves..help!!
started doing my lt4 valve spring swap and roller rockers today, so far i have got the springs on #1 and #6 with the arrow at 12o'clock on the balancer, my question is can i go ahead and put the rockers on #1 and #6 and do the spin the push rod method to set the lash for those two cylinders that i have already put the new springs on, and so on for the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions, i like to work fast and that seems like it would work out better for me so i dont get all confused and screw something up... thanks guys
With the crank arrow at one of those clock positions, it is true that you can swap 2 cylinder's valve springs, because the piston at each cylinder is at the top of it's travel. However, you can only set the valve lash/preload on only one of the cylinders, because only one of them is actually at TDC. The other one is on the exhaust stroke.
If you have the front cover off, you can use the position of the cam gear to tell you what cylinder is at TDC for a given clock position.
