The pickup depends on the pan you're using.

The 10554 comes with the Melling pink spring, the same as the GM spring, so you don't need that spring.

Oil pressure is a product of the pump plus bearing clearances. No one can tell you what your pressure will exactly be.

The spring is easily changed (if needed) by removing the bottom plate, knocking out the rolled pin, swapping spring, reinserting rolled pin and reinstalling the plate.

If that Melling pickup is exactly like the GM 12550042 , then it is the right one. I have not seen them side by side. Hard to tell by pictures, but it looks pretty close. It is definitely the right diameter for the pump.

I think it comes with two springs and you use your choice.

I recently purhased a 10554 and it did not come with 2 springs. I went ahead and got the white spring also. As shoebox said, it is a very easy swap.

Mine came only a single "purple" spring. So I used the GM white spring.

What is there to shine light on and what freaking difference does it make? Use the white or the pink spring. Same difference.

It just seems you are worked up over nothing. If you have the pink spring already, you are good to go. Again, the Melling pink and the GM white are both rated at 70#.
