Mechanical vs hydraulic cam (cc306)

I'm getting ready to a head/cam package and I am trying to learn as much about it as I can. My big question now is what is the difference b/t a hydraulic and mechanical cam? After reading up here, I think I want to go with a CC306. Is this a hydraulic or mechanical cam? What all will I need to replace with the installation? I hate to ask but if somebody has a "laundry list" of parts that would be needed, I would really appreciate it. I just want to make sure I totaly understand what I am getting myself in to. Thanks.

As far as the explanation of cams are concerned, read this article. The CC306 is a hydraulic roller.

cc306 is a hydralouc cam, and is a big cam... people reccomend a set of heads with them, but I had stock heads, and they worked fine.... you will be fine too... having heads just further benefits....

you are going to need these....

I would reccomend compcam OEM replacemnt lifters if you motor has some miles on it... i used stock lifters with very low miles on them... these are around 200 bux...

you also need crane or compcam (i have crane) gold roller rockers... i'm not sure on the price of these, i would say around 200-250 bux.... make you get self aligned ones, unless you are revving to 6500+ all the time, which then I would reccomend non self aligned, but you need to align these every oil change or so...

you would need hardened pushrods (again not necessary, but I would reccomend) these areou around 120 bux...

while you are doing this, I would also reccomend you upgrade your timing chain, although your stock one is fine... just another reccomendation... they are around 300 bux....

as you see, changing a cam costs alot of money

my cam swap was around 700 bux, and i was lucky enough my buddy did the work for me

I dont believe that the Non self aligning rockers need to be aligned all the time because they use the guide plates to align them and as for the hardened pussh rods you only really need them if your going with the non self aligning rockes with the guidplates

and you can pick up hardend pushrods for 40 bucks new
120 is for chromely which is not nesecary
