I'd like to hear some opinions from engine builders. What do you think about a short fill of block hardener, (Hard Blok)?
For a street-strip motor?
For a 0.030 overbore LT1?
For those about to clearance for stroker cranks?
I did a search here in LT1 tech and in advanced tech and came up empty. Only thing I know right now is the sales pitch for Hard Blok says it helps dampen vibs and keep cylinders true to help ring seal. Short fill should be fine for a normally cool running street engine.
That all sounds great. But what are your opinions and experiences?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Unless your eclipsing 700hp, a lot of boost, or an overkill amount of bore with a big shot (all of these would probably be 700+hp motors) its overkill in my opinion. Can't hurt, but is unneccessary cost, and we're not all made of money.

appreciate the reply Spinner. thanks.
Another question comes to mind when you mention it's not worth it for lesser stressed motor.
What is good about Hard Blok in the severe service applications that would not be good for a more mild motor? Or are there bennefits to be had in a mild motor by using a short fill?
thanks,
Karl

I'm going to TTT this just one time and hope for some more input. Probably as in my case, there is just no experience with this and thus no reply.
Please give input.

Re: Hard Blok (advantages-disadvantages) what is your opinion?
I did the short fill on my 396 lt1. i chose not to splay the mains instead we did some other mods and did the short fill. cooling will improve by doing this many think the other way around mine was a 220 motor i did the 160 thermostat which made it run about 210 then the fans switch took it to 200 after the new motor with the short fill was running i cant hit 180 if i tried. the reason i really did it is the many problems i have seen from others coming into the shop where there crank would actually walk back and forth in the block after 10k from severe vibration and high rpms mine has not done it
