Angry Mechanic Baffled!!??!?!?1

OK.. here we go again... this is a follow up from my previous thread...
I took the car to my mechanic this morning and explained to him what was going on.. He just looked at me like a baffled moron... He said that there was no way a lifter would break after driving easy for 40miles... but wasnt sure what would cause it.. Then he said something about a bad regulator??!?! and finally mentioned that while adjusting the RR's he noticed they were very loose and moved around alot but couldnt tighten them down anymore because they need to be able to move freely..... So... what in the hell would cause a lifter to break so soon? and... all the white smoke out of the exhaust... the head gasket was replaced so thats not an issue... also this smoke came with the first breakdown 3 weeks ago... and this all happend at idle at a stop light.... started clunkin ..nasty engine vibration.. white smoke.. bad sputter... any ideas or .02 would be appreciated because im about to go fuggin insane here...

agreed, if he doesn't even know how to properly set valve lash, He shouldn't be working on your motor.

maybe he should try using the right size nut on the RR's they way they stay in place. Take it to somebody else and see what they say, I wouldn't trust this guy.

What type of roller rockers are you running, self-aligning or non-self aligning. Do you have guideplates? Who built your engine, a reputable shop? Sounds like you need to pull the engine and tear into it to find out what has happened. Typically white smoke is the antifreeze getting into the combustion chamber. Just because you replaced a head gasket doesn't mean it cannot blow out again. Did you have the heads pressure checked before re-installing? Did you have the heads checked for flatness and milled after the last head gasket failure? What kind of head bolts are you using? Please don't tell me the stock ones. Just a few questions to help you out. Something is not right and if it's clunking I would at least pull the top half of the motor off and go through it. Wouldn't hurt to check over the entire engine. Major pain in the butt I know but you sound pretty frustrated with the unknown right now.

AARRGGHHH.... The thing is that the engine was built when i bought the car.. i cannot contact the previous owner because he is in the military and nowhere to be found.. im not sure what all he has done to this thing.. but when it runs right it runs like a scolded dog... not to mention that im not very " mechanicly" inclined... Alot of terms used ..i have no idea about.. therefore i have no clue where to begin with this... but i need to get it back to running right in a hurry.. its my only vehicle.. a few notes from the first breakdown..
1.he took the entire top end apart and found a broken lifter and broken push rod.
2.the head gasket seemed to be ok.
3.the cam was tore up
4.the timing chain was stretched...

the results..
1.replaced all 16 lifters.
2.replaces all push rods.
3.installed new headgasket
4.replaced cam with a cc305.. not sure what cam was it in previous so thats what i picked to go in.
5.replaced timing chain and gaskets.

i dont know if any of this info helps... but im pretty much a newbie to this and not sure what to do... also.. he garuntee's his work.. so i dropped the car off this morning.. i spent over 2 grand for him to fix it and no i am broke.. so i cant afford to take it somewhere else.... hopefully he can figure out what the problem is and get it fixed right.
