max rpm on stock bottom end

I just intalled a new cam 227/233 .560/.569 lift, 111lsa. NSA rr, and comp cams pro magnum roller lifters.

I want to know if anyone knows how high rpm a stock lt1 bottom end can handle. Also if the stock cranckshaft is cast iron or forged steel?

Also can the stock cam driven water pump handle high rpm's?

~7,000 or so. The stock computer, let alone opti couldn't handle much higher. You should really look into an electric waterpump. Pretty sure the crank is cast iron.

From what I've heard, the stock computer will shut down at 7000 rpm. I don't think I'd take a stock bottom end that high, especially with only 2 bolt mains.

my Z saw 6800 rpm almost daily all summer this year, put about 20 000 miles on it this summer btw no probs. i wasnt worried about it. cant say for sure how long itd put up with it, it seemed to like it actually 6500 rpm or so should still be relatively "safe", if the valvetrain is there. jmo

The stock crank is nodular cast iron, significantly stronger than ordinary cast iron.

How long do you want it to last? Obviously a motor should spin to 6k many more times than it can spin to 7k. That being said, I ran my stock bottom end to 6800 several times on the giggly gas from when it had about 80k until it had 120k(it was still going strong at this point BTW). Also, even tho I was hard on the stock bottom end, I took good care of it with mobil 1 oil every 2500 miles.

before I blew my motor I would go 6800 constantly with cc306 this summer. Now I guess I don't have enough "*****" to rev it more than 6000. I learned to love my new motor too much, don't want to rev it too high. Your engine will easily go to 6800, but unless its built for high rpm's I wouldn't do it, it's too painful to do a rebuilt. my .02

Hell I'd go for it and will. I went WOT on this new motor 3 times so far and she shifts way up there. My stock motor never saw anywhere near that high and I spun bearings at 79k, so what the hell. If she goes...she goes.

I've hit my 6,900 rev limiter quite a few times. I agree that with a proper valvetrain a 6,500 rev limit should be fairly safe.

My car has survived a year of 6800rpm shifts. It has seen 7200+rpm once when I missed 3rd at 6800rpm and threw it back into 1st. The computer didn't shut down though. I'm not sure of what the stock crank is made of but I've never heard of someone breaking the stock crank. The most common failure in stock LT1 bottom ends are bearings.

Mine hit the ol' 7k once when I was racing and it tried to do the 2-3 shift. My tranny was (I found out) about to take a dump on me. That's some rev limiter they have on these vehicles!

From my experience the stock bottom end/ valvetrain are good for atleast 7k if not beyond.

Sadly, my 95k engine would not take what it should have. Spun a bearing the other day (rev limiter at 6300). Oil pressure is still good.

There's no way I think that the stock valvetrain could hold up to 7k.
