Re: max bore

Pretty sure you'd have to get a SBC for that!

Re: max bore

Yeah, Victory Race Engines told me that .040" was the maximum safe bore for an LT1...

Re: max bore

Some can do .060 for the 396, but that's about the limit.

Doesn't take .060 to make a 396.. I don't recall if it's also .030 or if it's .040.

.060 from what I understand, the block will need to be sonic checked.

Re: max bore

383 = 4.030 bore 3.75 stroke
385 = 4.040 bore 3.75 stroke
396 = 4.030 bore 3.875 stroke
398 = 4.040 bore 3.875 stroke

Re: max bore

Yes .060 over have the block sonic checked... some blocks won't do .060 over on the street for long if they don't pass the sonic check... worth the peace of mind IMO!

Re: max bore

is there any kind of sleeve that could make it possible? is it even logistically possible? or would the cost of that just be ridiculous?

I assume you're doing this to get max power. For all the money you're going to spend on this LT1 engine to get that many cubes, you should just go to a regular SBC and bore that out to the max. You'll get much more power for your money.

Re: max bore

You can sleeve the LT1. There's been a couple discussions on this, one of them in the past month or tow. A "search" should turn it up. One of the people who used to post here more regularly built an LT1 "427" using sleeves.
