Make my friends 30th aniversary beat me
My friend just bought a beautiful 30th anniversary Z28 auto. I want him to be able to compete with me. None of my friends other than him have any fast cars. We raced and I took him by quite a bit. What are the most cost effective and best modifications (please post from which manufacturers) to do to his car. From who should he get these from, or should he get them?
Stall
Gears 4.10? or is that too tall for an auto, do you need chip to calibrate speed etc?
Torque convertor
Chip
cai or no?
maf?
throttle body any good on lt1's?
underdrive pulleys
timing bump?
Drag radials
headers
o/r midpipe
mufflers
Anything else Im leaving out?
If it matters i want him to be able to beat me. I have an 02 mustang GT convertable 5 speed with 260 rwhp and 300 torque, 4.10 gears, full drag suspension, and 275 nittos, running mid to high 12's depending on where i race (elevation)

With an automatic 3.42s or 3.73s are popular, if its a 93 he needs a chip, if its a 94+ he needs a reprogram of the computer.

He should be putting down about 245rwhp bone stock. CAI (Moroso), LT headers (Hooker), and a catback(take your pick) should put him at about 280rwhp and perhaps 13.5 to 13.7 quarter mile times. He probably has 2.73 gears which is killing him off the line. Tell him to stay away from the TB and MAF for now cuz he'll be wasting his money.
Then a 2400-3000 stall and 3.73 gears will put him in the 12s, or darn close to it assuming he gets traction. From there he can go with the HOTcam kit ( about $470 and a proven 35-40rwhp gain with tuning).
Most of the LT1 vs equally modded (bolt-on) 99+ GT races I've seen were pretty good. They're practically side-by-side until about 70 and then the LT1 begins to pull. But hey, it's all game just run 'em and have fun.

on my 96 M6 Z28 with FLP's, POS mac catback, CAI, TB, and pulley i pulled 295rwhp@5500 and 320 rwt@4200........and i had a 230 temp and opti miss. that would probably get close and gears and a stall would definitely do it. check out racinlt1's setup in his 97 TA (non ws6). i know he has a lot more done/in process now , but with some bolt ons and a wet shot he was DEEP into 11's. do a search or check out his aol webpage. that should get you plenty fast.

wow, wish it was that easy to get 300 rwhp in my Buttstang NA. Good lord, there really no replacement for displacement. Ill let him know what to do then. Btw I trap at 106

those are pretty nice cars....but hate to say i beat one to 80mph in my auto eclipse, lol. his back window said "VTECH THIS". so i was like, its on! i of course agree with his saying there....but hell i was in my import. so we hit it at 30mph side by side, i got a QP on him, and by 80mph i was still ahead of him by a quarter panel, then he creeped a quarter panel on me by like 90 or so. then we had to stop. he pulled up aside at the light before he turned right and just said "Nice!". it was funny. i had just got blasted for like 2-3 cars by a few other LT1's that week, and the big bad 30th ann with exhaust at least ........i pretty much take him. tell your friend to do what i got listed below on my LT1, and he will be mid to high 12's. mine runs side by side with high 12/110-112 trap cars....but its REAL heavy. tons of stereo equipment and its a WS6 to boot. could be faster.

If the car is auto which from the posts it looks like it is. Get
long tubes, 2800 stall, PCM4less programming, CAI, and catback exhaust. Ofcourse dont forget nittos. With this setup you will hit 12's all day long :-)

on another note I'm going for a hotcam & bumping the stall higher than my current 2800 (which is great don't listen to this guy above, i cut 1.7's w/ it.) and aiming for 11's.
hey BB come get some out at Moroso on Friday night, let's see how my stock cam car does against your hotcam car.. unless your skeered.

Ha.. I said I'm going 3000+ b/c I'm getting a cam. 2800 is fine for a bolt-on car, as evidenced by mine.
My car is no freak, the first times I ran in it went 13.9's @ 100 w/ Cold Air... that's about normal. I've just followed a good plan on modding it and know the work has been done right, by my self.
