Main Bearing???

My 96 LT1 is "Squeaking" Definately in the Block has a mild miss and belt is totally disconnected. Tore down the Whole top and valvetrain looks excellent. Maybe a Valve??? I haven't removed the heads or looked at the bottom end. Oil Pressure is excellent no change. one note is that the number three intake pushrod broke about 15,000 miles ago but it ran fine after replacement. any thoughts before I pull it out?

Re: Main Bearing???

it could be a bad throwout bearing that is echoing thru the rotating assembly from the trans input shaft.

Re: Main Bearing???

Perfect FP I think it may be a bearing because it seems to squeak the loudest at startup nad then quiets down, Maybe connecting rod, but there definately is a vibration when it's reved and it's running like ***

Re: Main Bearing???

I guess you could go around and dead each cylinder individually and see which one is making the noise. If making a cylinder dead it goes away then i would say a bearing on that connecting rod. Have you done anything to it lately? That sucks man

That's another cunundrum Deadening each cyl (via injector) seems to have no effect on it, also compression was 230 lbs on all cyl exc #8 which was 189

Re: Main Bearing???

your squeak may be a tiny exhaust leak caused by a crack in the manifold or headers. May be worth a close look if you know whaich side it is from.

Re: Main Bearing???

could be piston slap or a rod bearing. but those dont exactly 'sqeak'.

Re: Main Bearing???

shoot it could be a loose sparkplug as well or one that is not sealed right.
