Mail Order Tune - worth it on a bolt-on car?

I was just curious if a mail order tune would be beneficiary to me with my current mods.

1997 Camaro SS M6
Edelbrock Shortys, Stock Y, 2OTL
52MM BBK, 1LE, Ram Air/K&N
Rear LCAs, Adj Panhard, Lowering Springs
LS1 DS, Hurst, Lou's Short Stick

If you feel the money would be better spent on something else let me know, I'm not switching out to LTs for a while because I need to get a smaller drop, such as a Pro Kit.

Even on a stock car mail order tune from madz28 or pcmforless is good for about 10rwhp

A mail order tune is usually beneficial even when completly stock. Having said this about that: Depending on the difference in cost per HP, I would opt for 1.6 or 1.65 SA RRs with dual-springs (adequate to support any cam that you plan on getting) along with the quide plates and hardened PRs. While a mail order tune may provide an additional 10+- RWHP, just going with stronger springs alone should enhance the ability of your stocker to max power in the upper RPMS thus eliminating the floating due to weak springs. Adding the extra lift with the higher ratio rockers, which also increases the effective duration of your cam, should give you a sweet improvement in power and response. You will, of course, need a mail-order tune or dyno-tune to maximize your the power available with mods in the future. Your call. JMHO

For the cost and the gains associated with it, it is one of the better bang for the buck mods IMO.

BTW, I meant non-SA RRs, not SA Rockers. Also....even if you gain 10 RWHP with the mail-order tune, your stock springs are still holding you back on top. JMHO

Thanks. I'm trying to get my buddy to get a bigger cam so I can buy his complete hotcam kit but we'll see.

Step one for "summer mods" is to fix the exterior due to neglectful previous owners.

The best noticable (and cheapest) mod I ever did to my Z was a pcmforless tune.

Definitely worth it

I ordered mine through Trifecta Performace

And as far as I know they use PCMForlesss Tunes. The other key here is no need to touch the PCM. Basically they send you a Palm type device you plug into the OBDII Port and in 10 minutes your tune is loaded. Then you just send them back the Palm device.

Also note: They have numerous tunes created from Dynoing actual cars, so odds are very good they have one that is very close to the mods you have

Best ~$200 I spent on Mods IMHO
