Magnaflow vs. Dynomax exhaust question

Sup guys,
The Z28 I just recieved came with a flowmaster muffler that the previous owner had purchased. I checked the piping diameter and it was 2.75 inches so I know its just the muffler. I personally think the flowmaster sounds pretty wicked. I like it and all but theres one problem, its too loud. I dont like attracting everyones attention when I'm just accelerating to 45mph. I was thinking of replacing the muffler with somethign quieter.

Heres my question, between the dynomax super turbo and the magnaflow, which is has the more aggressive sound? Also where could I order the Magnaflow muffler? I cant find a muffler alone on anywebsite so far, only the catback. I did a search and many say that the magnaflow sounds quiet at idle and only gets loud when you open it up. On the other hand I have a dynomax on my '77 so I know thats a pretty tame muffler. I wouldnt mind having the a little more noise than the dynomax if it doesnt come at the cost of excess interior resonance. My second question is, If I get a cut out installed along with the muffler, in the future would it really be necessary that I upgrade to 3inch pipe if I get serious with modding? I'd think a cut out on a 2.75 inch pipe ought to flow well enough. (I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible)

Thanks.

I'd go with Magnaflow, from what I've heard I prefer the Magnaflow sound. Here's where you can get just the muffler http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/magcammuf.html They also sell a stainless steel version somewhere on that webpage.

if you like the flowmaster's sound, throw a resonator on there. otherwise, it has been my experience that dynomax is your best choice for the most power increase, even though it is really quiet.

I have the dynomax ultra flow on mine. It supposed to be one of the best flowing on the market. It sounds deep and wicked, and no interior resonance. I have heard a Magnaflow on a LS1 but I never heard one on a LT1 so I cant really compare. But it sounded decent.

You can order a Dynomax ultra-flow from Summit for $60-ish and then you get a rebate for $25, and you can order the new 3" piping from them also for about $130-ish shipped, and you will have a bad a$$ cat-back for cheap!

I had a MAGNAFLOW muffer only installed on my 97 T/A. Tailpipe outlets are 2 1/2 dia. verus 2 1/4 stock. I'm using the factory 2 3/4 cat back pipe but the muffler will take a 3" pipe. Sound ? Best yet, quite at cruise & a nice roar when you give it some revs, love it.

I had a Dynomax Super Turbo dual-exit on my Caddy and it was loud. And it droned pretty badly at cruising RPMs.

I've heard that Dynomax's UltraFlow doesn't drone, and it certainly flows a lot better than the ST.

I went to dynomax's website and read the catologue. I didnt see a 3inch system available for the LT1, just LS1 cars. Am I missing something? It said the pipe diameter would be 2.5 inch or 2.75inch depending on application.

Heres the link
http://www.dynomax.com/documents/pas...ral_motors.pdf

Whats the part number for the 3 inch LT1 system?

Just to double check before I place the order, this is for the single cat right? Thanks.

Oh yeah, one more question. If I pick the Dynomax Ultraflow, whats the correct muffler number? On the dynomax webpage they list one for the LS1 with 3 inch inlets and outlets. Is that the right one? Also, if I go with that muffler do the Dynomax tailpipes look nice, or should I just let the exhaust shop do my tips for me?

Yeah it's for a single cat car, the 3" inlet and 2 1/2" outlets # is 17227, not the one your talkin about. For the tips I got some tailpipes that they make for the 3rd gen that 2 1/2 and cut them back far enought to put some stock 4th gen tips on.
