maf mod, is it worth it?

I looked at my maf, it still has the screen. I see the aftermarket ones dont. I've heard people say their car didnt run right after they took the screen out. The aftermarket ones claim to give 20hp. Is it worth modding mine?

there are alot of difference of opinions in here that removing the screen will do anything. i have a LT1 hint book from www.tpis.com and they say that there IS an improvement of air flow with the screen removed. so what i suggest is remove the screen carefully, dont touch the little wires inside and just save the screen, in case you want to put the screen back in. i removed mine and my car still runs fine. just my .02$

I removed mine about 5 months ago and my car has run fine ever since that. There is an improvement in the air flow because when you take out the screen look at it straight on and then rotate it slightly from side to side and you should see that you cannot see through it anymore. Thats what happens to the air. Take that screen off carefully and you should have no problem.

Scanning with Datamaster I go from 330 to 360+ AFGS with screen removed, but I noticed I get better drivability with the screen, now I have 2 mafs

i pulled mine out and noticed a gas smell every now and again.

it helps airflow but causes an improper reading for the maf so the computer may or may not be giving the correct amount of gas for the incoming air. the screen stabilizes airflow and gives a more precise reading.

it's up to you, i'm debating about putting mine back in. i don't want everything inside my motor to carbon up.

i installed GMS composite maf ends, basically a composite version of the stock ends but without the screen or the divider down the middle.

i have noticed no problems in the 2 years i've had it.

i'm upgrading to a ZO6 85mm maf soon as it arrives, so i'll be interested to see if that makes a difference.

if you want to buy my old GMS ends, PM me. that way if you expereince some problems you have your untouched ends to go back to.
