Smile Maf Descreen? Majority Vote Wins!

IS THE MAF DESRCEEN MOD WORTH IT? I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A VOTE ON THE MAF DESCREEN MOD. I HEAR PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS AFTER ITS DONE OR THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN POWER AND THAT IT MAKES THE MAF NOT READ CORRECTLY. LETS TAKE A FINAL VOTE ON THIS. WHO DID IT AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT. WHO THINKS ITS A WASTE OF TIME. MAJORITY RULES.

.... it depends..... truthfully....

If you are using a factory (non WS6) setup of CAI that I can't suggest it. If you are using a WS6 setup then I'd say yes removing it shouldn't have any adverse effects.

But hey... do whatever you wish...

No !

It may-be does not do any harm, but as there is nothing to gain, I would leave it (like I did).

how far do you plan on building your motor/car? if you are just going to be a cai/exhaust guy and want to maximize your cars potentional, then hell, go for it. if you ever want to rebuild your motor for more cubes or upgrade your heads and camshaft, along with some custom tuning (lt1 edit/tunercat) than i would say no! tell you what, i have a descreened/ported and polished maf. i am trying to tune my car right now using lt1 edit. if you really want a ported maf, i will trade you my ported/descreened one for your stocker.

Sure, removed mine at the same time that I install K&N CAI, and made TB bypass. Removing the screen took about two minutes, I was extremely carefull, didn't damage anything, haven't had one single problem. Don't necessarily recall any major gain response wise from it, but it hasn't hurt anything.
DOOO ITTT!!!

You can always remove the screen (assuming you don't tear it up while removing it) to see if it enhances your vehicles performance and put it back if you don't like the results. I removed the screen and ported/polished my MAF and have not had any problems. If I had to do it again, I'd probably have left well enough alone.

i say yes. have had mine off my '96 Z almost since i bought it with NO PROBLEMS. like was said, the aftermarket ones do not come with one, so... also like was said, if you do decide on doing it, you need to be EXTRA careful not to mess up the sensors. i am convinced that 99.9999% of the people that have done it and had trouble, messed up a sensor and just didnt not know it, despite what they may say.

i am not going to tell you that you'll make more HP w/o the screen, but i do know it wont hurt your car. there are several theory's on why GM put it there in the first place, but for me, from a common sense standpoint, it's just one less thing to restrict airflow.

I would vote yes. I couldn't "feel it" but if it's free....why wouldn't you do it?

I'm running Thunder Racing's ported/descreened MAF ends, and I haven't had any problems. I've heard that the MAF is calibrated using the stock ends with the fins and screen, but it hasn't hurt anything on my car. I agree that people that have had problems must have messed up the sensor. Do whatever you want to the ends, just don't touch the sensor! I'd say go for it. Worst case scenario, you can pick up a stocker from ebay or a boneyard for cheap.
