Angry Maf

Anyone know of a easy test for the MAF on a 95 LT-1. I was told to disconnect the MAF, and if the engine died the unit was OK.. I was told if the engine kept running that the engine was in limp mode. Is this true?? I am running a factory MAF with no signs of damage to the inside, but the engine is sluggish.
Any suggestions of what to check??

If you disconnect the MAF, the PCM goes into Speed Density mode.

I *think* you should also disconnect the battery to let the PCM relearn the tables, but I am NOT 100% on that...

Regardless, it should run the same, if not better, without the MAF... if it runs better without it, there could be a possible issue with the MAF.

mine doesn't run awful without it, but runs much better with it. If I disconnect it, the fans and SES come on.

i'd like to know as well!

I unplugged the MAf and ran the car - at part throttle, it pulled and sucked in my chest noticeably harder than it does with the MAF plugged in. Even after I cleaned the maf bars with a q-tip, I feel a bit more sotp with the maf unplugged.

What can this mean? I can unplug the MAF while my car is running - and the rpms will drop like its about to stall, then go back to 1000rpms.

I am thinking about just programming out the MAF in my pcm so I don't get the SES. what kind of a hit in mileage are we talking? Can't be much worse than the 12-14mpg that I get with the maf plugged in, right?
