MAF= Tranny Problems
MAF= Tranny Problems
Ok so this weekend I decided to switch back from my 85mm Z06 maf back to stock in an effort to solve the infamous surge. Alot of people tell me that the aftermarket MAF's are crap so I thought what the hell. I was also going to clean the IAC as my surge started around the time I last oiled my K and N.
So I pulled the TB and completely cleaned it up it was atrocious.... I also did the TB bypass and switched to a smooth bellow. I put everthing back together except I forgot to pusth IAT into my ram air box. It fired right up and so I took it for a spin.
I pulled out onto the street and the trans wouldnt shift till like 4000rpm!! WTF. I pulled into a parking lot and pushed the IAT in the box and drove a little more. The shift points seem to come a little later then normal still but after driving for a while evrything seems fine???
I drove to work today and it felt perfectly fine besides my surge at idle still
. It felt very responsive on the freeway and no slip?? I hope my tranny isnt going again?
Is there anything I should check? Can a MAF affect when the car shifts because I originally bought the aftermarket one because a shop said my current one may have been going??? OPINIONS PLEASE

Oh my god i had almost the exact same problem after i cleaned my IAC needle last weekend. It only did it one drive to work, scared the #@#t out of me. It never did it again (that was 3 days ago). I don't know how those two are linked at all, but i just had my tranny rebuilt earlier this year and for it to fail now would majorly **** me off.

I drove home today and coming up the on ramp it really seemed to hesitate but once it hits 60ish the throttle response is better than ever??? I guess maybe this one was going like they said.....I will have to try and find another stock MAF.

Yeah its a LS1speed.com one. It comes from granatelli.
Running in SD today I noticed no trans slipping and the car felt pretty strong.
How likely is it that the MAF can cause tranny problems??
Anyone

Here is some food for thought: If the maf was not calibrated correctly for your computer, it's possible that it may have been letting in a whole wack of air, thinking it was only letting in a much smaller amount... causing the car to run WAY LEAN, even with the computer adjusting to compensate... If the cars running way lean you might get the sensation that its "slipping" on your RPM band when really your car is reving the engine in gear... but with very little power.

Its bad for your tranny to run that way.. definatly. I don't know if my little theory is correct or not, really just a guess of what might be happening (as mine did this exact same thing up to 3500rpmm and shifting hard after i cleaned the IAC, though it hasn't done this again since)...
