MadZ28 Tuning...

I pretty much have a bone stock car, or what I think is a bone stock car... the only thing i'm fully aware of is an aftermarket exhaust. I Just read that a tuning from Ion says 13rwhp is promised on a stock car... Plus I want to 86 the stupid skip shift option. Think its cost effective for a little extra power now, then another tuning once I do the headers, plugs, wires, etc...

Re: MadZ28 Tuning...

cheaper then a cold air induction and will give more power then one also, definately worth it IMO

have the fan turn on temp lowered to 190*, skip shift elim, get the LT4 KM option or have him desensitize the stock KM, raise the rev limiter a few hundred rpm also, too maybe 63-6400rpm

plus pcm updates are cheap when future mods are done

His tuning is definately worth it. You can have him do a tune that will be good with the headers when you install them, so unless you need something else done then you only need it tuned 1 time. I felt a good gain, and the car shifts better and revs up a little higher.

Re: MadZ28 Tuning...

You think I should convert to OBD1? I was told I should, what are the differences? Pros/Cons? Power differential? I hear a tune in general will add some horse... about 13 or so... that true?

Re: MadZ28 Tuning...

i highly recommend ion. he came through as always. my z is a beast at the top end now. with the many people on this board that have dealt with him and have positive comments, you know it's worth it. also have him program the fans to come on earlier (mine is 190 low-195 high). good luck

I have never heard anyone have anything negative to say about his service. I too plan on getting some tuning done soon.

Oh, definitely getting the tube, i'm talking about the conversion now. From OBDII to OBDI. I was told to get that. I was told that its just an easier computer to deal with on F-Bodies. Is that all?

Chris
Switching to OBD I will only gain a few HP. The main benifit is a dumber less picky ECM that is more tollerant to mods.

The problem is you have to pass emission in NJ. Switching your car to OBD I will cause you to fail.

Re: MadZ28 Tuning...

When I got my computer reprogrammed, I decided not to put in for the higher octane. Was that a bad decision?

Higher octane would give you a few more hp. It just depends on if you want to pay extra for it or not. I would have gone for the higher octane deal myself.

Re: MadZ28 Tuning...

Is it stupid to change to OBD1 though? Does anything change for my driving? I heard about some stall problems and whatnot... I just want to get the extra hp from the tune, I was just told to get the OBD1 Convert while i'm at it because of the extra power and its a better system.
