i hate to bring up an old thread like this, but did anything ever become of this tool??

How would you keep the valve from dropping down?

Ya put air in the cyl while ya do it.Some say they won't fall out with the piston at TDC. I won't trust that.It could fall far enough to bend when ya try to get it back up by rotating the engine.

It won't fall out. You have someone hold it up (all the way) while you slowly rotate the engine. Each time you rotate it a bit, you have the person push the valve down, to see where the piston is. As the piston starts coming up to true TDC, you will notice the valve doesn't push down as far. Eventually, you reach the top of the travel, and turning it doesn't give any more valve travel, and you are well beyond the point where pushing the valve down as far as it will go leaves you with a couple inches of exposed valve stem.

As long as your valve stem seals are OK, you could even do this part alone, without another person holding onto the valve stem for you (since it wouldn't slide)... but it would probably take a lot longer.

As for this tool, I saw a comp cams tool, which was nearly identical, only I thought it worked on both springs (intake & exhaust) at the same time.. I could be wrong about that part.. but it definetly was wider than this tool..

Ya, I've done the (air in the cylinder) before, but on two of my spark plug holes, I dont have access to them with the air fitting/hose...(damn Dynatech LT's)...I've thought about just using a magnet, and some string to tie the valve off..The rest of them, are ok to get to...
