Machining the Heads?

While the heads are out of the car, the mechanic thinks its best to machine the heads. So I am getting this done, its going to be a minor port job to help fit the cam. But no one mentioned anything to me about the heads having to be fitted for the cam?

Its a XE227/233 Cam with a .560/.569 Lift. Do the heads really need adjusting to fit?

Anyway, would I be able to notice machine heads and a minor port job? I am getting them done as little as possible because the dude was asking way to much for a port job. Can't afford that now...

Would this be considered... "A Valve Job?"

Sorry to sound ignorant.

Re: Machining the Heads?

Going to a cam with that much lift you are going to want to take your heads to a competent shop that can get you set up with the right spring pressure, make sure you are not going to go in to coil bind, make sure you have enough clearance between the retainer and guide and between the retainer and seal. If possible ask for specs for these things for future reference.

Re: Machining the Heads?

Would that be considered a valve job?

By the way, thanks for the info.
