Mac headers really mids?

I just bought a set of Mac headers and after looking at other mid-length headers, I think are they really mids? Looking at say AS&M's, they are really longer then shortys but shorter then longtubes. Even looking at the LS1 version of Macs they seem longer then the LT1 version. Whats the deal?

Re: Mac headers really mids?

I think they are considered mids because they obviously arent long tubes and they dont work with the stock y-pipe so they arent shorties.

MACs also have much more power than shorties, but a little less then LTs.

Ive had all 3 and really liked the macs. I like the no emmisions BS of my new longtubes, but macs are nice midlength headers.

Re: Mac headers really mids?

Well, I made a decision to get the Mac's over longtubes (Pacesetter) mostly because I got a good deal on these and I needed ground clearence. I know that Pacesetter's supposidly have just as much ground clearence but whatever...

i sold my macs for 230 and bought my pacesetters for 374 shipped. The ground clearance is a little worse with the pacesetters.

Re: Mac headers really mids?

my parents live in kingwood, but i go to UT in austin.

I am in austin right now, but i am going to be in houston on thursday the 22nd. If you need some help, i can give you a few pointers. I sold mine and helped the guy install them last night, so it is fresh on my mind.

We can meet up or whatnot. I need to get my exhaust fixed as i am running straight headers right now.

Re: Mac headers really mids?

I probably won't be installing them for a while, well at least until my next inspection is due in August. The main reason is I got one of those letters in the mail from the moble emissions testers and I have to have my car pass the sniffer and I don't want to take a chance with headers. Would you have any pointers as far as a interchangeable cat goes?

Re: Mac headers really mids?

have you bought the cat yet? Because i have an extra cat that i can get for you, i will only charge you shipping because it is in dallas. The cat comes off rather easily, just loosen the y-pipe up a little and it unbolts and comes right off. Overall it isnt that tough.

Was that your post earlier on the TX board about the roadside sniffer?

Re: Mac headers really mids?

I have not bought the cat yet. That would be great if it is one that would just bolt on because I want to run an off-road pipe but also need a cat for inspection.

Yes that was me that posted about the roadside sniffer. I will definitely be raising hell especially if my car passes with flying colors, which I know it will.

Re: Mac headers really mids?

Yea, im pretty sure it is the one that bolts up... i will look into it. I bought my car with MACs and the guy had the ORP on it and i didnt think i would ever need a cat (my car has a 306 cam, so it wouldnt pass anyway) so i didnt take it. I will call the guy and see if he will send that out if you pay for shipping.

Re: Mac headers really mids?

You got the single cat MAC's right? They should look like this.

If so, yes they are mids. Mine are coated, so your finish may look different.

The '96-'97 style MACs are shorties.
