Mac headers Jet-hot

Been doing the search for awhile now, and am interested in the mac headers. I want it to be completely street legal, and I have a 96 Z, so I want that set-up, the dual cat one. I read the single car is $560ish shipped from Jet-hot, was wondering in the price difference for the dual cat system? Or is it just simply the headers for the $561? Just looking for some clarification. Thanks.

Re: Mac headers Jet-hot

For 560 you get the coated longtube headers and thats it. However you will have much more room for improvement, if the 1 5/8" midlength macs are the ones your talking about, with the jethot longtubes as well as more power on a stock motor right off the bat. In order to be legal you will need a hooker Y pipe and a cat then a catback, or buy an x pipe system from Dr. gas or have a custom one made to accomodate cats. If you get the Mac midlengths and really dont plan on going much further with the car then thats a lot easier since you only need a cat and cat back to go with them. Oh and longtubes reduce ground clearance a bit.

Long tubes of ANY kind are not street legal (in states that require emissions testing). Even though they maintain all of the emissions provisions, they relocate and change the number of cat(s), a violation of most states emissions laws. In short, if they do a visual inspection, there's a good chance you'll fail.

Re: Mac headers Jet-hot

I've worked with all sorts of inspectors in my area and none do visuals but my area is the plano area near dallas might be diffent in certain areas california especially. They dont even check for an EGR or smog pump or anything although no egr would show up on the smog test. I cant tell you how to find out if they do or not or how strict they are but no one in my area would gove anyone hell for having cats in a different location.

Re: Mac headers Jet-hot

Well my plans for the car are going to be as follows, a torque converter, many bolt-ons and a mild cam, well keeping street legal. They do visual inspections here in Lake County Ohio, so I have to keep the 2 cats. I was wondering if anyone knew a price from jet-hot on the 2 cat system. From what I have read, Mac's are the best for the price, I was thinking edelbrock TES since I like 45 mins from a Summit Racing and I could buy them there, or maybe pacesetters.... dont think I want pacesetters. I like what I have heard about the Mac mids, and the price may not be that much more steep than the Edelbrock ones. I can get the Edelbrock new for 450ish at summit I believe. Maybe I will go with the Edelbrocks, any suggestions?
