Mac Headers

Ok im going to buying a set of mac headers soon in the next few weeks hopefully. Ok im wanting to buy mac headers with the offroad y-pipe to go onto my 95 ltl. They way i understand it is mac supplies you with the headers(of course) off road y-pipe and starter tube. I got this idea from another member is to use the off-road pipe and when i need to pass emissions i can weld a cat to the starter tube and take off the off-road pipe and hook up the starter tube with the cat on it. THis will work correct?

Ok now for prices

This set says it includes off-road y-pipe starter tube and all that and is for 93-95.

And then this set which is the same as above cept 70 or so bucks more and is for 95-97 and says no cats.

Some im curious of which set will work with the setup im going for. (Running off-road pipe normally then having the starter tube with a cat on it and just unhooking orp and putting the cat on for emissions.)

Re: Mac Headers

Why not just buy the MAC cat, so you can bolt it on or off.... Seems to me it would be easier....Mac cat

Re: Mac Headers

I just think this way would be cheaper. All i would need is a cat to hook up to the starter tube. Maybe even i can use my old stocker?
So that would save me from spending like 200 or however much that cat is.

Right now im just needing to find out wat the diffrence is between those two header packages and which will work for the setup im going for.

Re: Mac Headers

I think that "other member" was me. I'm using a standard set of single cat '93 headers. You'll need a set of standard single cat '95 headers. The y-pipe itself makes no difference on "emissions" or "non-emissions". The cat or ORP bolts to the y-pipe. MAC supplies a "starter tube" which has a flange that bolts to the y-pipe, and is meant to be welded to the front of the cat. on the other end.
The MAC ORP is flanged on each end, and is a simple "bolt in" between the y-pipe and the "cat-back". I took the supplied "starter tube" that came with my headers, and had it welded to the front of a cheap 3" cat, and had my original cats flange welded to the rear of it. I had it made the exact same length as my ORP. Since they're both the same length and have the same flanges, I can swap them in a matter of about 20 minutes.
As a side note, I've got my manual cut-out installed in my ORP. I still can't figure out why MAC doesn't offer this as an option, because it works great.
Yes, it helps to have a friend with welding skills. I measured, marked, and cut everything. I just had him weld it all up for me. It was all actually rather easy.

Using your stocker is a very doable option. Just cut it off the original y-pipe, and have the "starter tube" welded on the front. Just make sure you get the measurement right between the flanges.

Yes 12SCNDZ it was you, you've been a great help. If you could kindly answer these last few questions i should be good to go.

Ok so just to set my car up with the off-road pipe what would i have to weld?

Also out of those two links i listed which one or will both work for my car?
All i want to do is set up my car with mac headers and orp pipe and then later on i'll worry about setting up the starter tube with cat for emissions.

Also if later i wanted to put a e-cutout on with the orp would it be easy to set-up.

If you get the "emissions" headers, and the MAC ORP, you won't have to weld anything. It all bolts together.

Yes, I can bolt the electric solenoid right to my manual cut-out flange.

I'm assuming that MAC lists "non emissions", and "emissions" y-pipes because their "non emissions" MAY run all the way back and bolt directly to your "cat-back" main pipe. You might want to check with MAC directly to find out for sure, though.
