MAC Header Buffs in here. Help with leak.

I just installed my Jet-Hot MAC's and wow what a difference it made. I've got some problems that are driving me absolutly out of my mind. The bolts are tight, and the cat seems to be welded properly, but I still have this ticking sound comming from somewhere in my car.

I used FelPro gaskets, but not the 1406, it was just the regular ones. The 1406's don't fit. Or at least the ones I got diddn't.

What I'm thinking is there might be a leak in the collecter but it was tightend down with air tools, or maybe somewhere in the EGR when it was hooked back up.

All I know is there is a leak and it's not the motor because the motor did not make any ticking noises that loud. Please someone give me some good advice because I'm losing my mind with this silly leak.

I've had mine on and off a few times and always used the factory metal gaskets. These things have never leaked at all, try em, they work Did ya put some ultra-copper on the slip fit joint on the no. 1 cyl.?? O'2 tightened up??

I'm willing to bet that it's a header to y-pipe issue.

MACs are great and all, but the fact that the header to y-pipe junction uses two bolts facing opposite eachother as opposed to a three bolt traditional-style collector bothers me. I actually bent the metal ring that pulls the y-pipe onto the collector. It never really sealed well to begin with...

And the latest was 2 header bolts backed out.just had to tighten them up so now after a month of fixing crap it sounds great ! just the way it is with cars and parts what else would we do with our time???

Sounds just like my leak. Here is where mine were leaking. On the drivers side collector, where the 4 primaries come together.

Header Leak Picture

You can't get a mig welder in there. You need a stick welder. We used stainless steel welding rod and it worked great. I had to pull the header off. Not too difficult on the drivers side.

I haven't had any problems with leaks at the collector to Y-pipe connections, even though they are two bolt style. I just made sure that there were no metal burrs on the connecting pieces. I even sanded them slightly and put ultracopper on them. Seal like a charm.

If you don't have one of those little mirrors on the extendable arms, do yourself a favor and get one. They are great for finding leaks and seeing in hard to find spaces.
