Both are the same thing. M6 means that the transmission is a six-speed manual. T-56 is the name for the six-speed manual trans.

Re: M6... T-56 ? what do these mean?

M6 = Manual 6 speed

A4 = Automatic 4 speed

the T-56 is just the Code for the tranmission.

The T-56 transmission is found in allot of cars from Auston Martins to dodge vipers.

T-56 is the model number of the tranmission.

no m6 is on the rpo sheet, to determine if the car will have a manual trans(M6) or an automatic trans(A4) 4l60e.......

They are the exaxt same thing... M6 is just a code in the F-body world... but if you were to need parts for your transmission you would say "Do you have any gear Synchro's for a BorgWarner T-56 Transmission."

Re: M6... T-56 ? what do these mean?

M6 is a slang term for a 6 speed manual transmission. It could be any brand of transmission.

T56 is the model number of the Borg Warner 6 speed that is used in the f-body and some other manufacturers cars.

MM6 is the actual RPO (Regular Production Option) code you will find on the sticker located in the glove box or driver's door (depending on model year).

Or it can be M28 or M29 for two differently geared T56's that were used only in 1993.

All three transmissions are Borg Warner T56's.
