M6 flywheel question

The T56 conversion kit came in yesterday. Now I'm at a loss about the flywheel. I went to NAPA earlier and they said $45 would cover the cost of resurfacing it, but they can't rebalance it.

Where can I go to get it counterbalanced the same as my A4 flywheel? I'm a little worried about putting it on without it having the right balance.

And if you'd like to have a nice 85K mile 4L60E w/ trans cooler, let me know.

It should be already balanced....look and see if has been drilled out in a few places on the back. Anyway, any engine machine shop shouol be able to check it. They do make aluminum ones with removable wieghts also.

I just installed a clutch and had my flywheel resurfaced and it stayed balanced. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks for the replies, but keep in mind that I'm changing over to the M6 so the flywheel from the donor car will have a different counterbalance than my A4 flywheel. As I understand it each engine has to be balanced individually from the factory.... and ours is externally balanced using counterweights on the flywheel. The counterbalance one engine needs may be different from the other and I would hate for the wrong balance to shake my engine to pieces.

second97, my e-mail is down right now so I'll get back to you tomorrow (I'll PM you if it is still down). I'm selling the trans and cooler. And I'll throw in any of the other A4 stuff for free if you want it. Plus I'll arrange the shipping and pay half of it on top of what I get for the trans.

Thanks again

The only way to truly balance it would be to have the rotating assembly balanced with that flywheel , but that would involve alot of work.

im pretty sure the flywheel is nuetrally balanced so shaving off a few thousandths on the front of it will not affect its balance. and like gb95zconv said its a lot of work to balance the entire rotating assembly with the fw and hub attached so instead of balancing all the rotating parts together, they are all seperately balanced nuetrally.
