as&m midlengths for a 96LT1???

ive been lookin for some headers for my 96 TA and i dont wanna go 1 5/8 shorties(i had them on my 93 and they made no difference)....i like the AS&M 1 3/4 midlenghts(LTs hang down too much) but i can only find them for 93 and 94-95...is the cat the only difference? if so...i can easily just put a single cat back on(if i even decide to keep it....i just wanna keep the egr/air so when i have to go through emissions(every 2 years) i can just put a cat on and call it a day..does anyone know?...thanks

You will want the '94-'95 style. The ones for the dual cats are worthless and melt everything in your engine bay. Couple of various things, the AIR will not bolt right up. I had to go to get a coupling for it to work. I went to Sears Hardware and they had it there. Its a female to female coupling, but I am not sure of the size. Just take your AIR diverter valve and your header if you want to be sure.

As far as the cat goes, since you are moving them from the stock location, it isn't totally legal. However, you can bolt in a single cat. The Y-pipe uses a standard 3 inch, 3 bolt header flange. You will, depending on your setup, will then need a length of pipe followed by a ball flange. If you have a look in my cardomain page, you will see what I am talking about. I can just bolt in a cat if I would like to and bolt in an ORP.

You will love the ground clearance with these headers. I have the Pro-Kit and I still have like 5-6 inches of good ground clearance. There are some pictures and a small writeup on the last page of the headers on my cardomain.

You should also take a look at the Random Technology dual-cat y-pipe. That's the combo that I run. Check here: http://www.tbyrne.com/lt1catalog.html

They have the bungs in there for the rear O2's and it's supposed to come with the pipe that will let your stock y-pipe bolt up. I ended up doing O2 simms in the rear though, because I kept getting a wierd EGR code.

I've also used '94-'95 midlength style headers on a '96-'97 car, except mine are MAC's. What others have said is correct. You will need two adaptors for the air fittings(one for each side of the engine). My adaptors were male to male, not female to female.

I also bought a '94-'95 Hooker catback.

You will still need a cat, or straight pipe, or bullet muffler, to span the gap between the end of the Y-pipe and the start of the catback.

I'm trapping 105 mph in the 1/4 mile, with just this mod, cai, and 1.6RR's, so the midlength's are definately worth it.

Uh oh. That could get you in trouble someday.
