Re: AS&M Headers Questions

You'll need the headers for 94-95, the single cat, and a place to weld a pipe from the back of the cat to the present cat-back, You could buy the I pipe for a single cat-car, ( I beleive you can order them as replacements from most of the companies that make cat-backs), a set of O2 simulators will simplify things, but you can delete them out with a computer tune.

Re: AS&M Headers Questions

If you want the AS&M's, tell the exhaust shop you want a single high flow cat put in place of the dual cats. Thats what I did. Mines a 97 also. I lost some torque down low but it does shine up top. Believe me, once these are on, it's all worth it.

Yes it would be cheaper.

Johnnynsac,
Trust me, you didn't lose any bottom end torque.

Besides....
99-HDRPKG-SD Random Tech Stainless Steel DualCat Y-Pipe, Arizona Speed & Marine 1-3/4" Headers, Full Accessory Package for 1996-1997 model cars $1459.00
There's gotta be a better bang for the buck high performance header out there now If not, tell me if you think this purchase is really worth it.
I'm not sure who "some members" are, but I'm pushing 800HP through the single-cat AS&M's. They were modified to bring the drivers side collector straight back, and by adding length to the passenger side collector. Then dual 3" CarSound high flow cats were connected to each modified collector, and a 3" custom Y-pipe built by Mufflex, to connect to a 4" Mufflex catback. It worked VERY WELL, as determined by engine vs. chassis dyno testing.

My AS&M's were originally used on a 30th SS convert, making about 850flywheel HP, 383/Vortech S/C setup. At that power level, the engine was dyno tested to compare the AS&M's with Hooker LT's, and the AS&M's put down SUBSTANTIALLY more power (remember, this is a setup that only ran in the 5,000-7,500rpm range, at the track). It was only when they bumped the cam and pushed the engine over 900HP that the Hooker LT's made more power than the AS&M's.

I currently run the AS&M's with Borla XR1 shorties on each collector, and a 3" pipe back to the axle, with a 90deg turndown.

I think Injuneer's emissions laws changed so he can't drive the car on the street much at all anymore regardless.

Thanks for the info. Couple of more questions though. Will I have to
modify the emissions tubes to run these on my car or is it a direct
fit? Also that's 650.00 with the coating on them right?

Thanks

Kenneth

The headers we have for the 94-95 Camaro's will work with the 96 and
97's.
You will have to delete our y-pipe that works with the earlier singe cat
setups and go with a Random Technology y-pipe with cats that will tie
our
headers to your cat-back exhaust. The headers are 650 without the
y-pipe.
The Random Y-pipe with cats is 650 as well. Both of these prices do not
include shipping. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Ben,

I have a 1997 Z28. I was wonder do you offer a long tube header
for us 96-97 guys without the y pipe or with dual cat y pipe? If so
can you tell me what the price would be.

Thanks

Kenneth

Re: AS&M Headers Questions

What I got from it is that you can fab your own dual cat Y pipe and it should work just fine. He suggested the Random Tech y-pipe as a suggestive sale. I plan on getting these which are actually mids and fabbing my own dual cat y pipe.

Re: AS&M Headers Questions

Hey GrnHornet, thanks alot for that info...I see the Random Y-pipe is REAL expensive...but it does include the cats. Also, when you meantion "emissions tubes" what are those specifically?

The tubes for the AIR system and the EGR system that plumb into the headers.

Re: AS&M Headers Questions

If you do decide on single cat setup, look into Rk SPort 1/ 3/4 headers . They are almost identical to AS@M (same exact design and manufacturer) and are also great quality for at least 100-150 bucks cheaper.

I have used both AS@M and RK Sport inthe past, and there is no noticable difference between the two but price.

Re: AS&M Headers Questions

No problem 1970AAR. The emissions tubes are exactly what WS Sick said. I agree with you the Random Tech Y pipe is a sickening price to pay.

WS Sick I the primaries are 1 3/4 like a long tube and I believe the collectors could be 3". I'm not sure on that though. 1 3/4 primaries is one of the reasons i am choosing it over Macs. They have 1 5/8 primaries.
