Sounds like you are putting "single-cat" AS&M headers on a dual-cat car. The single-cat cars had 22mm threads on the AIR fittings. The dual-cat cars have 18mm threads. You need a reducer bushing, if you can find one. Or you could get the larger size fittings from someone who has deleted them from their single-cat car.

i ordered dual cat headers with the random tech dual cat y-pipe. apparently AS&M were not aware of this (i ordered through Thunder Racing) and they did not send the correct sizes. I called AS&M and they are shipping me out the correct air fittings overnight which is nice.

Got them installed yet? They were a BITCH, expect lots of fun on the passenger side.

My motor went so I pulled them off and I'm gonna sell them and buy some pacesetters.

I thought AS&M stopped making their dual-cat headers about 4 years ago. They were horrible, wrapping up over the valve covers to keep the drivers side cat in the stock location. A buddy of mine had the dual-cat AS&M's on his 97 Z28, and even with virtually everything under the hood covered with thermal blanket, they were melting parts all over the place. He pulled them off after about 6 months. I thought that's why AS&M stopped making the dual-cat sets.

I like my AS&M's - I bought them used off a guy that pushed over 850HP through them, before he had to upgrade to LT's. I'm running close to 800HP through them. The right side collector is modified to run straight back for duals:

Passenger side

Drivers side

sorry, let me make that a little more clear. I bought a random tech dual cat ypipe (which was just discontinued, they said i got the last one on the shelf at RT). This ypipe adapts to the AS&M headers

Injuneer, check the cardomain link in my sig. Those headers were pure bastards, plain and simple. They made good power though.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if someone shot the person that designed those headers.

Holy crap! that right side header looks like a rats nest. It's no wonder they don't make them any more.

No offense to you but...it looks like those headers were designed by blind african chimps

I bet changing the plugs are a breeze

haha yeah i think there were 3 plugs that were pretty tough to get too. the installation sucked until i removed the steering knuckle on the driver's side and then i jacked hte motor up on the passenger side and those slid right up in there...it was the bolts on the passenger side that were impossible!
i believe these are the same headers you would put on a 94 or 95 but it is the RT ypipe that makes them dual-cat. i'll try to take some picture from the top and post them if i can in a day or two.

Funny.... the chimps must have known what they were doing... I saw them make 50HP more that a set of Hooker LT's at the 850HP level on George Baxter's record breaking 30th SS convertible - side by side engine dyno test. You might want to think a little before you shoot your mouth off.....

There is one plug that is difficult to reach. I'll trade a minor inconvenience for real performance any day, but you might not understand that.

Perhaps that should read, downgrade then?

Never have been a fan of Hookers... headers or otherwise.

George didn't do anything without a dyno check... and after the 850HP setup, he bumped the cam and made a few minor changes, and at the 925HP level the Hooker LT's had the edge. He ran the LT's up to 1,125HP.

Of course, now he has these. Ooooops..... looks like the chimps got ahold of that #8 primary . 1,325HP.

Isn't George Baxter running an Art Carr 700R4 transmission with that 1300 hp setup?
