LT's, Mids, or Shorties?

Im looking for the best bang for the buck ceramic headers. My goal is low 12,s after cam/valve train/converter install. I dont want to go overboard on the exhaust if I dont need to. Which headers are gonna let me meet my goal but also not rape my pocket book? Also looking for something with a y-pipe included. Please list best web sites to buy also. I've used the search function to its fullest yet I cant find many opinions that meet my requirements.

Thanks for the help.

from what ive heard the y-pipe they give you isnt that great so it would be better to have an exhaust shop fab you up one

I got quoted $400 for the pacesetter install + y-pipe fab from my dads friends muffler shop

if you dont have to worry about emissions, forget shorties all together! if youre gonna go with mids then get the 1 3/4" MAC's...

I personally prefer the long tubes myself...with top of the line companies being TPiS and FLP...

For the money Id just get the coated PAcesetters or Jet-Hot's though...

The MAC mids are 1 5/8" not 1 3/4".

If you have emissions or want something cheaper than longtubes, go Mac midlenths. I didn't have the money at the time, so I picked up the Mac's from Jet-hot for $425 shipped to the door. They picked me up .4 tenths. Longtubes will probably pick you up probably a .1 to.15 over mid-lenghts (unless they're AS&M's), but they are more expensive, because you have to buy the headers, then have a custom y-pipe made (some y-pipes for longtubes are out there).

The best ones are the '94-'95 single cat style. Model TF94957

http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/Precoats/Camaro.htm

I haven't been to the track with the my new MAC headers and catback, but you can see my dyno results in my sig. I am still running through a cat, and am running a little rich and I still dynoed the numbers below. Once I fix those two things, I should gain another 10 rwhp.

I just did the single cat conversion on my car to the Mac Mids.

I stripped a spark plug thread in the block so I am waiting for my car to come back . I will definatly post some results up once I get my car back.

Due to lack of funds I did uncoated Mac too, $399 at ls1speed.com

I had a set of the Mac midlength headers and y-pipe from thunder racing. Great setup, really focuses on the upper rpm powerband, which is what drag racing is all about. Nick Steele had no problem putting down 400 rwhp with Advanced Induction heads and MAC midlenths. BTW his motor was stock block with 90k+ miles.

For mid and upper rpm I went to Hooker LT's with a Mufflex y-pipe.
The Hooker/ JetHot LT's (JetHot's have emission connections) are a great value. Y-pipe from Mufflex is very adjustable and affordable.

Bang for the buck MAC, all out prefomance LT's

Hope this helps,
-Christian
