Post LTCC users check in here

I am strongly considering this upgrade and would like to hear about your experiences.

How long have you had this setup?

Are you pleased with the results?

Was there a noticable difference in the way your car ran after the swap?

Also will coil packs off of a 6.0 liter Cadillac Escalade work? (I can get all 8 of them free!!)

Hope to hear from you all, thanks in advance.

Talking

I love mine so far but, have only have about 500 miles on the set-up. My ignition previously would break up at high RPMs before the LTCC but, once I got the opti off I noticed the rotor was cracked and broken on one side so the rotor was probably wobbling around. If you have a fairly stock car and no opti problems there is probably no reason to do it. I have had numerous opti problems which I think were due to the MSD box + the blower in the past. Since the LTCC no longer sends the high voltage thru the opti maybe it will work out. Plus its funny to see the look on people's face when they look at the engine, the coil packs, and the headlights trying to figure out if its and LS1 or LT1.

Just finalized putting mine on yesterday morning. Love it. Drove the car in pouring rain, wide open throttle and all the normal stuff. Starts right up. Upon startup, my idle was immediately noticable for it's smoothness compared to pre LTCC. Even steady cruise throtte at 3K rpm is smoother. I highly recommend it. Even if you're not having problems now. You KNOW it's a matter of time, don't you? You don't want to wait til you're in a less than favorable situation when it finally goes out. I found my set of used LS1 coils for $75 on ls1.com classifieds. I made homemade brackets from some aluminum angle stock I purchased at the local Home Depot for around $8. I haven't finished my install page but here's some preliminary pictures www.taekwondoplus.org/z28/LTCC.htm

Does anybody have the part numbers for the coils, LTCC box and brackets? Are there any other parts needed?

how long was the install and most importantly what did the entire ignition cost you? i would love to have that but just invested in a cam which should go in in a couple weeks so this gives me time to look around for a good deal on a coil pack and maybe make some brakets.

Making the brackets took the longest part of this. If you looked at my webpage, you'll see the brackets I made. I made a template out of stiff posterboard, then penciled the outline on the aluminum angle stock. If you have access to a band saw, then you'll be ahead of the game. Then just a grinder or cutting wheel to speed up trimming. I went to sears hardware and got 16 1/4" bolts that were 3/4" long with some nuts to attach the coils to the brackets. The wiring harness itself has weatherpack connectors. You do have 4 single wires to attach. Two pink wires go to the +12 volt feed going to your stock coil. A single white wire that goes to the white wire going into your stock ICM (ignition control module). The fourth wire (Yellow) is only used if you have a rev limiter device or want to activate timing retard for NOS/BLower, etc. The only speedup things I can think of, and this is only if you opt to do it like I did, is:

A. Slot the bottom of the brackets so that you can just loosen the valve cover bolts just enough to slide the brackets under the bolt heads (as opposed to just having a hole in the bracket, requiring you to pull the bolt completely out)

B. get one of those ratcheting 3/8" combo wrenchex to speed up bolt tightening.

C. Ground each coils weather pack ground wire (each coils weatherpack has a separate ground lead with a ring connector) to a bracket bolt instead of the valve cover bolt itself. This helps so you don't have to lift the Valve cover bolts all the way to take off a coil/harness/etc.

I bought a new set of Taylor universal (over the valve cover) wires to cut down to the short lengths needed for this setup.

So, Cost for me:
LTCC box/harness = $350 (shipping incl)
Wires/LT1 boots = $75 (shipping incl)
Alum angle stock = $8 (Home Depot)
Used LS1 coils(8)= $75 (shipping incl)

There are a couple of informative/lengthy threads available if a search is done. This may go back up to 5-6 months ago.

I think my opti is on the way out right now.

My question is, this still uses the opti for a crank sensor correct? If my opti is bad right now, wont i need to buy a new opti anyways b/c the sensor wont be working properly?

If you received those DTC's about 'high resolution error' or 'Low resolution error' then the optical portion is affected. If not, then you're probably fine. And even with that, I'm betting you could blow any debri out of the sensor with an air hose and be fine.
Did you get any of those DTC's?

The caddy uses a DIS (direct ignition system) which is a 'waste spark' (fires 2 plugs at same time) setup. Don't know for sure that it WON'T work, but pessimistic on this one. Check with Bob Bailey to find out for sure. BTW, the LTCC is a nice setup.

You could darn near pick up the LTCC in person.

No codes have been thrown.

I've got a slight miss at under 2k, and when it is very wet outside the car mis fires, doesnt fire at all, hard starts etc.

So far i have done plugs/wires/coil/fuel pressure check/fuel filter etc.

So im pretty sure i am down to TPS sensor, MAP sensor, or opti. Testing as i go along...
