LT4 vs. LT1

i have seen a few guys put LT4 intakes and heads on their LT1 cars, is there any difference in performance? if so, is it significant and why?

your thoughts-

stock LT4 ~~ 350whp

stock LT1 ~~275whp

The heads flow alot better, it's got a more aggressive cam, and the intake has better flow.

LT4 upgrade kit.

LT4 ~~350whp

LS1 ~~310-325whp

I'm not sure of times for the LT4, The LS1 is def mid 13's on street tires with the occasional low 13's. Anyone else back me up or set me straight, i'm just going off of what i've seen before.

What the hell? LT4s making 350 rwhp? I think some of us are confusing the stock LT4 (rated at 330 crank hp) with the LT4 hotcam cars that some people run here (don't know the flywheel numbers). I don't know what stock LT4s dynoed (in Corvettes, or the very limited - 100 built - LT4 SS Camaros that SLP did in '97), but I don't think Chevy was underrating them by 45 crank/flywheel hp. They were rated at 330 at the flywheel, not rear wheel.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and the stock LT1 (at least in F-cars) did not put down 275 hp at the wheels. It was rated at 275 hp at the flywheel!

'96 Camaro B4C M6, Arctic White, 92k (no police service ever!)
K&N FIPK, Flowmaster, Skip Shift Eliminator, Intake Manifold Oil Leak , 17x9 ZR1 style SS rims

Not to get off the subject but I was curious about your signature. You say that you have a B4C M6? Did they make the B4C with the 6 speed? I thought that all law enforcement vehicles (American made) were equipped with automatics, in this case a 4L60E. Is your car offically a B4C or 1LE? I know the difference is really nothing but some bolt on's like bigger brakes and so on but I was just curious. I know the B4C is just a unbadged Z28 with maybe some 1LE components. Maybe I missed something you could shed some light on.
Thanks.

Not all B4C cars were made strictly for police duty. Some were used for Gov't testing to determine what type of car they wanted too use in the future.

Actually, it was never owned by any agency. It was bought by a guy in California/Arizona (had a place in each) who was good friends with a guy from a dealership in L.A. that did a lot of police orders (mostly Caprices) for governments in Cali. I have the build sheet and the invoice (and everything else) from when the guy ordered the car.

Regarding all law enforcement cars being automatics, that was not the rule (in '96). I think even as late as '01 the cops could order a manual if they wanted (back in '96, the manual was standard I believe; later the auto became standard - - and the manual was a "no cost" option). I'm pretty sure that in 2002, GM decided to simplify things and only offer the auto with the B4C package. Many people assume that all B4Cs were auto, though, because that is how 99% of the cops ordered them (imagine trying to run the six speed while working the laptop/lights/sirens/radio/etc.).

My car is a B4C, not a 1LE. Its right there on the RPO sticker. Heck, I've got a pic of the window sticker (which also came with the car, in like new condition). I can't host pics though. The funny thing is that he ordered options that most P.D.s would not (like the Bose stereo). The car doesn't have T-tops, ASR, Leather, or the power seat. But it does have A/C, Bose, fog lights, cruise, etc. Unfortunately, the car has somewhat higher miles than I'd like, but they are like 90% freeway miles, because he used the car to drive across southern Cali to his house in Phoenix and back. Also, it has the damn intake manifold leak (I'm pretty sure). Other than that, though, it drives like a much newer car, and it is kind of understated (no Z28 badges, no blacked out roof, etc; looks like a V6 car with ZR1 wheels and Z28 exhaust). I guess that's about it. Thanks for asking about the car! Sorry for typing a book about it...

I used to own a '96 Corvette with an LT4--it dyno'd 308RWHP bone stock on a water brake style dyno @ Superchips facility in Florida.
