LT4 top end conversion, which cam for better HP than HOTcam, but for daily driver?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here but I've lurked for a month or so.

I have a 1996 TA with 104k miles. Ram air setup, K&N filter, synthetic oil only, granatelli MAF, 52mm AS&M throttle body, SLP shorty headers and cat-backs.

I have got my heart set on the LT4 top end conversion. I know a lot of guys on here don't like that b/c you can port the LT1 heads and get better gains. However, (1) I think the LT4 heads will ultimately have greater flow potential, (2) I love the LT4 in general so even having the top end of one makes me kind of when thinking about it, (in Japan they say "Byong!" (3) I like the idea of genuine GM upgrade parts, (4) I am in love with the red LT4 intake.

So that part is a given. However, acc'ding to many posts the HOTcam is a good choice to go along with this, but not the best. I'm fiddling with the idea of a XE Comp cams, but want to retain daily-driverness while maximizing potential horsepower.

So my question. Which cam would give me better HP (hopefully a LOT) than the hotcam with this setup? I intend to pocket port the LT4 heads, and programming will be PCMforless if possible. What other parts will I need with the camshaft so that I can sound halfway competent when I talk to the tech at cc? (still a novice but eagerly devouring every bit of knowledge I can.) The LT4 heads I belive come with valves and roller rockers so what other things will be needed for the cam itself?

I offer up my question to the gods of LT1

Oh and one other thing. I don't really race (yet), but I'm aiming at road racing and probly autocross at some point. Till then I just want to blow the doors off of unsuspecting ricers and the occasional ls1, maybe an old viper or two.

anything IMO would be better than the hotcam. i would go with the comp 305 or 306. mabey even the crane 222/230 for a daily driver. buy some red spray paint and save your money!!!!j/k. it isnt too bad of a setup

The more Hp you want to get the less "Daily-driverness" you will probably lose. In my opinion the 306 is a great cam for that set up but it is quite lopey. I don't drive mine everyday but could very easily, I haven't come accross any down sides to installing this cam only good things.

what about the cc xe30/36

Thanks for the replies.

What about the good things I keep hearing about the CC XE 30/36? Perhaps I'm looking for something between the hotcam and the 306...if I were to go the XE route what kind of gains are to be expected?
