I used the stock LT1 water pump gear. No problems yet after about 30k.

Yeah, the stock LT1 water pump drive gear will work fine.

Yeah the only difference is the fact that the lt-4 timing chain sprockets are made of steel for stronger applications as to where the cheaper ones are usually made of iron. The iron ones are usually good up to around 400 horses after that its usually time to upgrade. Also there are some timing degree change possibilities on the lt-4 kits which i really dont understand ive changed mine out with factory gm kit and never had to adjust because everything goes on one way

Actually, the stock LT1 timing set is "powdered metal". From the LT4 vs LT1 comparison:
ROLLER TIMING CHAIN

Stock LT1 has powdered metal butt link chain drive for the camshaft and water Pump. LT4 has smaller but stronger steel roller chain. Although it seems that the new chain and sprockets would reduce mass, The cam sprocket was left solid, rather than webbed, specifically for additional mass. Increased inertia in the system reduces the tendency for cam torsion.

The LT4 timing set should not be confused with the LT4 Extreme Duty timing set, which is yet another design.
