lt4 starter installation

is this a straight replacement? the starters look very different in design, the original starter gear is supported at the end with a bell housing while the lt4 starter is open ended. Just wanted to ensure that I can bolt this puppy on as is.

Thanks in advance.

What is the difference from a stock starter? Is it like a Mini Starter that is always engaged or just a more powerful one?

A tad smaller/lighter and supposedly stronger. My stocker broke, this one was less expensive and had no core charge, so being "better" was just a side benefit. There is no housing on the solenoid to break anymore like my stock one did.

CZ383,

I emailed you a pic or two of the two starters side by side...

Thanks!

Buuuuuuut is the LT4 starter quieter ir is it jsut stronger. I have been lookin in to the mini starters and was curious of this was similar to it. I am guessin that it is since the vettes have them and the vettes also have LT4.

I wouldn't call this a "mini starter" just a better design. It's used on the lt4 corvettes, I have been told that it is stronger, more reliable but do not know if it is queiter yet, I still have to install it.
Plus it's cheaper than the stock gm lt1 starter.

I'm trying to locate/fix an oil leak before I put the starter back on.. It's too nice a component to have soaked with dirty oil after a while.

It does sound different, but I wouldn't say its quieter that I've noticed, it came from the Vette not a $500,000 Mercedes.
