LT4 (not hotcam) question

Hi all, would the standard LT4 cam offer any performance increase over the stock LT1 cam in my 94 Z28? Would I need to change my valve springs? Thanks!

It's not worth the hassle of putting in there.

LT1 cam(1996 example)
Lift
Intake .447/Exhaust .459

Duration @.050
Intake 205 /Exhaust 207

LT4 cam
Lift
Intake .476/Exhaust .479

Duration @.050
Intake 203 /Exhaust 210

Hey FastnTenn.......what cam you had. My Hotcam is 218/228 at .050 and maximum of 525/525 with 1.6 rockers. I think its worth the trouble and the whole kit cost like 490 shipped.

SJS-

He's talking about the LT4 cam. There is a diference between the LT4 cam and LT4 HOTcam. The LT4 cam came in LT4 equipped corvettes and the few LT4 SS's that came from the factory. The LT4 HOTcam was not offered factory on any car.

The specs I quoted above were the LT4 cam, and you are right about the specs on the LT4 HOTcam, 218/228 and .525/.525 lift. As you can see, the HOTcam is quite a bit bigger than the regular LT4 cam.

I have the HOTcam in my car BTW.

Thanks for the info FastZ! I guess I'm better off going with the HotCam.

No problem. Some people will disagree, but I think for the money the HOTcam is a solid choice, I've been very happy with mine. Also you might want to look at the complete HOTcam kit, it's 476 from www.gmpartsdirect.com and it comes with the cam, 1.6 ratio roller rockers, springs, retainers, shims, etc. If that interests you I can get the part number for you. With any cam swap you'll also want to put a new timing chain on it, I went with a stock replacement, it was only $20. Anyway, before I write you a whole novel........ You can email me with any questions Fastzntn@aol.com and I can help you out with whatever you need!

The reason I went with the stock chain is that I have an electric waterpump. With the stock water pump it is spun off of the timing gear. I decided since there was less strain on it because the water pump was electric that I'd be ok with the stock chain. If I was still running the stock water pump I'd probably get the LT4 extreme duty timing set, but to each their own.

TA76-
AS was stated, no point in the LT4 cam. Go with the Hot Cam Kit and think of going a little further..depending on your cash flow.

For any Cam swap, you have all the front end torn apart so go the extra while your there and replace the old opti with an upgrade.
Replace your opti with a venetd one (ala 95 and a lot cheaper than a non-vented), timing cover, and timing chain. Also a 1LE elbow, Opti harness and vaccum kit for the upgrade to a 95 system.
This setup would dictate an electric water pump as well and the install is not that hard to do if you take your time. The H.C. will run on the stock program, but rich, so to wake the car up, I'd re-program for the H.C.

Again it depends on how much you have to spend, but the total cost is not that bad for what i described above. That is if you do the work yourself...just a thought
