LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

Does anyone have any info about LT4 manifold bolting up to LT1 heads or are LT4 heads the only ones that work with it?

Re: LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

Welcome to CZ28.com. You might want to look over the "search" feature, because this question has been asked many times.

The LT4 intake manifold will not bolt directly to the LT1 heads. The top of each runner on the manifold interferes with the valve cover rail on the heads. One of them needs to be machined to allow them to bolt up.

After you get it bolted on, you will see no performance difference, because as cast the ports in the LT4 intake are almost identical to the ports in the LT1 intake. While LT4 heads have a 0.100" taller intake runner, the LT4 intake does not match the head port, and requires a bit of work to flow well with LT4 heads.

The red powder coat does look nice, though.

And people asuming it is an upgrade is exactly why GM has no more of them for the people who can actually make use of them with LT4 heads.

Re: LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

Please dont do this... the LT4 intakes are rare and you have to basically waste one to plug it on LT1 heads.

Hell I'll powder coat a LT1 intake for ya and trade ya that LT4 intake.

Re: LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

The reason I ask this is because the LT4 has longer runners and its easier to find aftermarket LT1 heads then LT4 heads...or would more power be made from ported LT4 heads?

Re: LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

How much power do you want to make? You can do 430+rwHP with just porting your LT1 heads and the right cam. LT4's are for people looking for much larger intake runners. At that point, they are competing with heads form AFR and Trick Flow. Take a look at the 3 available variations in LT1 head porting+cam on this website:

http://www.eportworks.com/index.htm

Where did you find info that indicated that the LT4 intake manifold runners were longer?

What Injuneer said.
Advanced Induction, LE, Combination Motorsports, Race Prep, Lingenfelter and a bunch of other shops can get you all you need for most LT1 builds out of a lowely set of LT1 heads and LT1 intake.

The LT4 intake only has a taller intake port flange to cover taller intake ports and it comes with red powdercoat.... thats it. Nothing else.

The LT4 intake topic needs to be turned into a sticky, this comes up way to often.

Re: LT4 manifold with LT1 heads?

I have a 95 LT1 intake, bought on eBay, and is painted red, I would
like to powdercoat it purple. However. local shop says Aluminum intake manifold will not stand up to high heat re: cleaning, &process., yet I read about you guys powdercoating LT1's. Not stand up to blasting etc.?

So strip it chemically. It will take a while, but it will come off. then blast it and powdercoat it.

They don't want to cook it hot enough to turn the red powdercoat to ash, but it can take the 260 deg or so that you need to powdercoat the thing purple once it is cleaned off.
