where exactly does this sensor go?

Are you talking about the sensor or the knock module? The sensor goes in the block, but I'm not sure if there actually IS an LT4 sensor. The module is easily installed just like noted above.

when is the knock module conversion needed?

When is the knock module conversion needed? Is there a particular type of modification or HP that makes this mod worthwhile or is it recommended under all circumstances.

I'm not aware of any power loss due to "false knock" timing reduction, but possibly such a reduction of timing would be too subtle to notice.

there is no such thing as a lt4 knock sensor

but there is a lt4 knock module, which is what i think your reffering to.

Yes that is what I am referring to, the module. When is the conversion needed?

They made the LT4 KM to eliminate false knock from the roller rockers used on the LT4 engines.If you install roller rockers or headers you should install a LT4 KM.
