I have a 96 Z28 that has the LT1 and it's a modded car and my car has been tuned and the timing advanced, I wanna know what the knock module will do for me and if it's worth putting on. It's an LT4 knock module. Also if I have stock ignition will 8.5mm Wires help me any? They are Magnecor 8.5mm Competition wires. I know they have less resistance so it should add slightly a better spark.

Since you have upgraded you valve train, ect. I wouldn't hurt you at all to pick one up. New there are only like $35 i think. It keeps the PCM from picking up false knock that is cause by headrs and valvetrain parts. Thats my .02 cents

lmao, I'll go ahead and answer this poor mans question.. Considering your engine is "modded" it probably makes alot more noise than it did when it was stock so the stock lt1 knock sensor will probalby pick up noise that isnt knocking and cause a retard in your timing so yeah the lt4 knock module will help. its only 35 dollars anyways.

Wow, im sorry,....but are you for real? Who did all the work to your car? I know we all gotta start somewhere,....but are you serious? Seeing the stock p.o.s. wires on an LT1 are like 7MM, anything bigger than that is better, especially on a vehicle like yours. Id say you're in need of more than just wires though, you need some more spark all together. Look into an MSD setup or something along those lines, and maybe a new opti if you havent changed that already.

 

Hard to believe you did not find in your search about what the module does (you searched, right?). The module does not reset timing and has no timing of it's own. All that is done in programming. The module is just a listening device. The LT4 version just happens to be a little less sensitive to knock than the stock LT1 version. The wires won't have anything to do with retard, if that is what you are asking. I doubt anyone could tell the difference in performance from stock 7mm wires and aftermarket 8.5mm ones.

I found out that it is a listening device and isn't as sensitive to Knock as the LT1 sensor and it is good for modded engines with headers and valve trane upgrade. I found out that it keeps the timing from retarding to false knock and keeps ur car running at full power. So I installed it and I can feel the difference + the wires and I'm broke but yes i'm looking into the MSD coil pack and the new MSD Optispark even though I have a new stock replacement. What plugs would yall recommend? I run the rapid fire Delco's cuz they aren't hot plugs. I did all my work on my car myself, just never knew what the knock sensor did. I put in a new motor and rebuilt everything. I had some people tell me that bigger wires on stock ignition won't help but I'd say it does and I found out it did. THnx
