LT4 knock module and mail order tune for N20

I would put this in the nitrous forum, but I thought you guys might know too.

I have a mail order tune that has been tuned for nitrous (basically retarding the timing 3-4*).

Would me putting on a LT4 KM help me, or would it reverse what my computer has been programmed for??

I am running LT's and I will be running 1.6's soon once I learn how to do the NSA type and get some springs....and learn how to install those....

Help me please, because I got a ton of parts to go and I am going to be going on an installing spree here soon, so what's one more part, eh??

The LT4KM has never cured a thing for me,and have tried it on several cars. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
If ya wanted to pull timing with your NO they ya should have put a MSD timing retard only active when the NO is armed instead of having the NO tune on all the time.
Ya don't want the KR taken out when running NO in case ya make a mistake with the tune.It may save ya from a big KAboom.
The LT4KM is a waste of money if your computer and knock sensor are not changed for it.

It was only tuned for 4* pulled....

I don't really consider it that much of a loss to lose that litle timing at all.

I know the LT4 KM desensitizes some knock, and since I was going to be running 1.6 RR and headers, some people say the computer will pull timing due to false knock.

Knowing this, I thought the LT4 KM might just cancel the knock pulled from the headers AND the 1.6 RR and it shouldn't affect my tune considering the timing is pulled inside the programming of the PCM.

It would basically save me from having even MORE timing pulled when I don't want it considering the tune has already pulled timing.

Does that make sense and would the LT4 KM work to keep even more time from being pulled??

Internal noise in the headers will pull timing and the LT4KM will not fix it.

I've put the LT4KM on 2 different cars ( one almost stock, one with more stuff on it ) and have noticed a difference. For $36.00 you can't go wrong. Neither car had headers, so I can't speak to that part....

Thanks for the input. I am going to ask madz28 and the guys from PCM4Less what they think as well.

I'd use the LT4 knock module just to make things a little less sensitive.......And IMO, I would also get the computer programed for best NA performance, and pull your timing "only" while spraying with a MSD digital 6 (or equilivent).......not only could you give up 20 or more horsepower running with it 4 degrees retarded on a constant basis....but you'll have ZERO timing adjustability if you ever jet the nitrous kit differently (without always sending the PCM back).........other major benifits to having the MSD digital 6 when running the bottle will be a much hotter more consistant spark, and (very importantly) having a revlimiter that cuts spark, NOT FUEL like the factory unit.....one mistake hitting the factory revlimiter while spraying , and the motor can be heavily damaged even with a small kit........good luck.........

Well, I know about the MSD 6AL and that thing is super sweet....

BUT

I have a plan to do a LT4 Hotcam or a custom grind after my summer internship when I have enough to do it AND a Moser 9". Along with that, I am going to be retuning my PCM, so this tune I got now, that takes off the spark advance and retards the timing by 3* is just a crutch to get me through the summer.

Thanks for the input and if anyone else wants to toss their $.02 it would be greatly appreciated.

Here we go again

How much difference did it make? How much false knock were the cars getting before and after the install?

You can go wrong if the LT4 KM causes false knock and the LT1 KM did not. I have seen it!

If the car has false knock problems try to fix the root problem. As a last ditch effort try a different KM. If there isn't a false knock problem, be happy

Can you tell if it has a false knock problem if it is an OBD1 without a scan tool? Will it bog down like hella bad or something??

.....To tell how much it's pulling (if any) you really need to data log it....every car and engine combo will be different....It could be pulling anywhere from almost nothing, to a considerable amount, "and" at ANY rpm.....what im saying is you might feel it or you might not......even 20 to 30 horsepower can be hard to feel and many times can only be seen at the track with a consistant car setup..........also, you said your aware of the MSD 6AL box..but go for the MSD digital 6...it has everything you'll need for the nitrous use......where as the regular 6AL is good but has to have features added to it such as the revlimiter modules, and the timing retard box.......good luck......
