That would have made sense, but NOT TRUE, however.
Yes, the ports on heads themselves, are raised.
No, ports are NOT raised on the manifold however.
Fact is, the two manifolds internally, are virtually identical.
Prior to introduction of the LT4 manifold, IOW, the (earlier production) LT1 manifold ports were actually larger, due to the 'crisper' rectangular shape of the port, at the flange.

....but if you were able to then it would probably hurt performance as the head ports will be slightly smaller than the intake ports...
If you have a '95 (thereabouts) or earlier engine, and if you were to be able to bolt on the LT4 piece, the LT4 piece would actually line up better, to the ports on the LT1 head, minicing the irregular rectangular shape of the head ports, at the flange. The LT1 manifold, due to it's larger (at the flange) size, from it's true rectangular shape, caused a mismatch, from the factory, of larger manifold port, into smaller head port. For this actual oem dilemna, the above quote, though not originally intended to be used this way, for real, now actually does apply. Even though it has been posted here B4, alot of people are not aware of that! Now they should know.

Oh, and to answer the first question, in the original post.....zero gain! But wait a minute!! Isn't a RED vehicle supposed to LOOK like it is traveling faster, for a given speed? How 'bout a RED intake?

Re: lt4 intake manifold

I have seen some literature saying the LT4 intake runners are positioned about .100" higher and that there is more material for porting... are you saying this isnt true? I am sure you remember my AFR post, well now they are saying if I get an LT4 intake everything will be peachy with my Intake port alignment after the heads were excessively milled. If I am wasting my time pursuing the LT4 intake... it would be nice to know.

If you are referring to the manifold itself, that literature is inaccurate. Not unlike car rags, er mags, do not believe all that you read.

Now that is a different matter. See your other thread.

If you do not intend to port the LT4 intake, IE, make use of the extra material cast into manifold, then YES, you are wasting your time!!! Again, see your other thread. If you would have oem LT1 heads, LT4 intake would not fit up without additional milling on the heads. Seeing the heads are AFR, there should not be a fitup issue.
